The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma is seeking law student volunteers for the Spring 2025 semester. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work closely with federal prosecutors on a variety of challenging projects and cases involving federal criminal law issues. This internship is open to all full-time second or third-year law students with excellent academic credentials, strong writing skills, and a fundamental knowledge of criminal law and procedure. The internship will last for 8-10 weeks and will provide students with the opportunity to attend criminal trials and hearings in Federal court, as well as work with various federal, state, and tribal law enforcement agencies. The internship will be held at the USAO Northern District of Oklahoma, located in Tulsa, OK.
About the Organization
The USAO Northern District of Oklahoma is the principal litigator for the United States of America in the Northern District of Oklahoma. The office is responsible for prosecuting all criminal and civil cases brought by the federal government and defending the United States when it is a party in a civil case. The office handles a diverse caseload, including violent crime, drug and money laundering activities, corporate and financial fraud, computer fraud, environmental crime, public corruption, and crimes in Indian Country. Responsibilities
As a law student volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and cases involving federal criminal law issues. Your responsibilities may include:
- Conducting legal research and drafting legal memoranda on topics such as 4th Amendment search and seizure issues, federal Indian law, and due process. - Assisting federal prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney's Office with various tasks and projects. - Attending criminal trials and hearings in Federal court with prosecutors. - Interacting and working with various federal, state, and tribal law enforcement agencies.
Qualifications
To be considered for this internship, you must meet the following qualifications:
- Must be a full-time second or third-year law student. - Must have excellent academic credentials. - Must have strong writing skills. - Must have a fundamental knowledge of criminal law and procedure. - Must be a U.S. citizen and pass a background investigation.
